Former EPA, Senate staffer opens law and policy practice
A former Environmental Protection Agency and Senate staffer is opening a new policy shop in Washington.
Steven J. Shimberg on Wednesday announced the opening of SJSolutions and said he plans to "wor[k] with the administration and Congress to promote and protect clients' interests" and to "participat[e] in the development of government policies and regulations." His new firm will also challenge "harmful regulatory developments" in court and provide counsel to clients.
"The change gives me a lot more flexibility and freedom to work with a wider range of clients," Shimberg told The Hill. "I'm really looking forward to helping people navigate the DC-environmental policy arena."
Shimberg started the law and policy shop after leaving DLA Piper, where he served as of counsel in the government affairs practice. Before that, he served as the associate assistant administrator within the EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.
He has also served as Republican staff director and chief counsel of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, as the National Wildlife Federation's vice president for federal and international affairs, and as a trial attorney in the Justice Department's Land and Natural Resources division.
