Former Interior drilling regulator joins law firm

By Andrew Restuccia - 05/02/12 11:22 AM ET

Michael Bromwich, the former Interior Department official who helped boost offshore drilling safety regulations in the aftermath of the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill, has joined Boston-based law firm Goodwin Procter.

Bromwich will serve as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, which is based in Washington and New York City. He will focus on corporate criminal investigations, among other things, according to a statement issued by the law firm Wednesday.

“Mike will add even more strength to our active national and international investigations practice and also provide clients with unparalleled experience and expertise in the energy sector,” Mark Tully, partner and chairman of Goodwin’s Litigation Department, said in a statement.

Bromwich, a former Justice Department inspector general, oversaw the reorganization of the Interior Department’s offshore drilling functions in the aftermath of the 2010 oil spill.

During his time as the head of Interior’s newly formed offshore regulation and enforcement arm, Bromwich was instrumental in advancing new safety and environmental regulations.

Bromwich founded a consulting firm, the Bromwich Group, in April after stepping down as Interior’s top offshore drilling regulator.

The firm “offers crisis management and strategic advisory services, as well as more specialized services relating to offshore energy and law enforcement,” according to its website.
