The discovery of unapproved genetically modified wheat growing on a farm in Oregon has pushed Japan and South Korea to halt some imports of American wheat. In addition, the European Union is encouraging its 27 member states to consider testing wheat imported from the U.S., following the discovery of the altered wheat, which had been developed by Monsanto but never approved for sale. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the discovery Thursday, but emphasized that no genetically modified wheat is for sale or being commercially produced in the U.S., and the Food and Drug Administration has said the altered wheat does not pose a threat to human health. Nonetheless, South Korea said it was freezing its imports of American wheat until shipments can be tested — the results are likely to be available in the first week of June, according to The New York Times.

[David] Vitter (R-La.), or many of my questions.”
