Sen. Paul filibusters Senate until he gets a vote to end aid to Pakistan

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is filibustering all legislation until he gets a vote on his proposal to end foreign aid to Pakistan.

“We should not be giving foreign aid to any country that is not clearly our ally,” Paul said Monday. “This must end, and this week I will renew my push for a vote on this issue, including holding up Senate business to accomplish this goal.”

Boehner calls for moment of silence for deaths of US officials in Libya

The House held a brief moment of silence Wednesday afternoon to mark the death of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, who was killed along with three other officials after the embassy was attacked and set on fire.

The tribute was marked by an appearance by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who spoke briefly before asking everyone to stand silent in the House.

House members call for swift US response to Libya deaths

Several House members on Tuesday called on the Obama administration to quickly respond to the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, which led to the death of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other officials.

"The United States must always respond to terrorists, and we must let them be reminded again and again we will respond in an appropriate manner," Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) said on the House floor. Poe noted that a terrorist group with links to al Qaeda has claimed credit for the attack, as well as the attack on the U.S. embassy in Egypt.

McConnell condemns killings of US diplomats in Libya

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) condemned the attack on American citizens in Libya.

The U.S. Consulate in Libya was attacked over a movie depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Attackers murdered four American diplomats in Libya, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Thune, Grassley question stimulus funds to battery company with ties to China

Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Tuesday called on Energy Secretary Steven Chu to explain whether a U.S. battery company should still receive millions of dollars in stimulus money now that it might soon be controlled by a Chinese company.

"Billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars have flowed to foreign companies through the Recovery Act, and we are concerned that the recent announcement could lead to even more taxpayer dollars going overseas," they wrote.
