GOP's Rep. Pete King to introduce further anti-gun legislation

By Josiah Ryan - 01/11/11 01:23 PM ET

Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Pete King (R-N.Y.) will soon introduce legislation that would make it illegal to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of some federal officials, a spokesman from King’s office told The Hill on Tuesday.

“It is imperative that we do all that we can to give law enforcement the tools they need to ensure the safety of New Yorkers and prevent an attack before it happens,” said King in a statement. “That is why, as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and Co-Chair of the Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns, I will be introducing legislation that would make it illegal to knowingly carry a gun within a 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials.”

King’s statement said he counts New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the powerful anti-gun organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns as allies for his legislation.
