Rep. Farr retracts complaint on lack of moment of silence for Sargent Shriver

By Pete Kasperowicz - 01/19/11 08:07 PM ET

Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.) tonight eulogized Sargent Shriver, the first director of the Peace Corps, and started by lamenting that House Republicans did not allow for a moment of silence.

But Farr's press office said after his remarks that Farr "misspoke." Farr's office said Republicans prefer not to conduct moments of silence when the House is in the committee of a whole, and that Farr misinterpreted this to mean that Republicans will never allow any moments of silence.
