Ellison: Republicans got elected 'by taking advantage of people’s pain'

By Josiah Ryan - 02/10/11 11:06 PM ET

In a floor speech at 9:52 p.m. Thursday night, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said he believes “Republicans got themselves elected by taking advantage of people’s pain.”

Ellison was one of many Democrats who took the floor Thursday night to complain that House Republicans are not focused on creating jobs.

In his speech, he listed a number of budget cuts Republicans are pursuing with which he disagrees and called one such cut “just cold-hearted and mean.”

The House adjourned at 10 p.m. and is scheduled to return at 9 a.m.
