GOP congressman: Left wants to create and profit from disorder
The political left is trying to create and profit from disorder, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) said in an interview published on National Review Online (NRO) on Wednesday.
"As Wisconsin demonstrated, the left believes the end justifies the means," McCotter said. "Consequently, viewing crises as opportunities, the left is bent upon creating disorder from which it can politically profit."
McCotter was referring to an incident in Wisconsin earlier in the month in which a number of Democratic state senators fled to neighboring Illinois in order to prevent the Republican governor, Scott Walker, and the GOP-controlled State Assembly from passing a law that would weaken unions' power to negotiate contracts with the state government.
The state GOP eventually used a procedural ploy to pass the controversial measure, and the governor signed it into law. A judge has imposed an order blocking implementation of the law while she considers an appeal.
McCotter spoke with NRO's Kathryn Jean Lopez and promoted his new book, Seize Freedom! American Truths and Renewal in a Chaotic Age.
