Reid credits Obama for bin Laden's death, omits Bush
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) gave full credit to President Obama Monday for killing Osama bin Laden, and did not mention the efforts of former President George W. Bush.
"This was a direct result of President Obama's efforts to refocus on Afghanistan and Pakistan as a central battle ground in our fight against terror," Reid said in a press conference at the Capitol.
"Over the past two-and-a-half years, the Obama administration has significantly escalated our military, diplomatic intelligence and economic efforts to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan and around the world," Reid said.
Obama announced on Sunday night that the U.S. had killed bin Laden in an operation in Pakistan.
Lawmakers credited both Obama and Bush in their statements hailing the terror leader's death, and have thus far avoided overt partisan politicking on the matter.
Reid said the fight against terrorism must continue.
"We know that the fight against terrorists who want to harm America is not over," said Red. "We know that."
