Florida Rep. says White House poetry guest a 'slap in the face' to police officers

"Mr. President, can you not see what this means to the people who put their lives on the line every day?" Nugent added. "It's a slap in the face, sum total or not."

One of Common's songs supports Assata Shakur, who was convicted of first-degree murder in 1977.

Nugent himself is a former police officer, and he noted that thousands of officers will hold a candlelight vigil in Washington on Friday night to honor officers killed in the line of duty.
