House Libya resolution would authorize use of force for one year

By Pete Kasperowicz - 06/22/11 09:09 AM ET

House Republicans late Tuesday released two Libya resolutions that could be considered in the coming days — one that would allow the continued use of force, and one that would require the almost immediate withdrawal from Libya.

The first resolution would authorize the president to "continue the limited use of the United States Armed Forces in Libya" in support of the NATO mission. But the resolution would only authorize these actions for one year.

The second is similar to a resolution offered by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), and would require withdrawal within 15 days of passage.

As of Wednesday morning, it was not clear when votes might be allowed on the two resolutions. The House Rules Committee listed them as items that "may also be considered" this week.
