House easily passes church investment plan bill

The bill was not controversial, and thus was on the suspension calendar and required a two-thirds majority to pass.

In debate earlier in the day, Reps. Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) and Andre Carson (D-Ind.) spoke in favor of the measure in a very brief debate. The bill would allow church pension plans to invest in collective trusts, just as secular pension plans can.

With House passage, the bill now goes to the Senate.
