House unanimously approves veterans fairness bill

The House on Tuesday afternoon approved the Restoring GI Bill Fairness Act, which returns educational subsidies to veterans that were cut in prior legislation.

The bill, H.R. 1383 as amended by the Senate, was passed in a 424-0 vote in the House. With passage from both chambers, the bill goes to the White House for President Obama's signature.

The bill lifts a $17,500 cap on tuition subsidies to veterans that caught some veterans who had already enlisted in more expensive schools by surprise. The noncontroversial bill was brought up under a suspension of House rules, which meant it required a two-thirds majority vote for passage.
