House approves resolution allowing DC Special Olympics torch run

The House has just approved H.Con.Res. 67, which authorizes the use of the Capitol Grounds for the DC Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. The resolution was approved in a 379-0 vote.

The bill was considered under a suspension of House rules, a process usually reserved for noncontroversial items that requires a two-thirds majority for passage.

Members also abandoned plans to take up H.R. 2061, the Civilian Service Recognition Act, which authorizes the presentation of a U.S. flag at the funeral of federal civilian employees. The House could take up that bill later in the week.
