The gentleman from North Korea… er, North Carolina

By Pete Kasperowicz - 10/12/11 04:18 PM ET

Rep. Michael Michaud (D-Maine) on Wednesday afternoon mistakenly identified Rep. Larry Kissell (D) from North Carolina, as Rep. Larry Kissell (D) from North Korea.

"At this time I'd like to yield one and a half minutes to the gentleman from North Korea, Mr. Kissell," Michaud said, before quickly correcting himself. "North Carolina."

Kissell walked to the floor as laughter emanated from the floor, and deadpanned, "My colleague scared me there for a minute." Video of the exchange can be seen here, courtesy of CSPAN.

Michaud likely had Korea on his mind because the slip occurred during debate on the three free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. Michaud and Kissell spoke against the FTAs, which are likely to pass anyway, and with significant Democrat support in the case of Panama and South Korea.
