Rep. Gohmert: Obama acting like the 'evil emperor'
President Obama is acting like the Emperor from the "Star Wars" saga, stoking hatred and class warfare, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) accused in an interview with the conservative news site Newsmax published Thursday.
“He is playing class warfare, and I have been really hurt for America as I’ve seen our president basically take a page out of the playbook of Darth Vader’s leader, the evil Emperor, when he was saying, ‘Yes, feel the hatred,’ ” Ghomert said in a phone interview published on the conservative site.
“This president says, 'Look around, see things you want,' " continued the outspoken Republican congressman. " 'You ought to be jealous of what they have. Help us push legislation that takes their money away and gives it to you.' "
Darth Vader was the fictional fallen Jedi knight who had taken up with the dark side of the Force in George Lucas's popular "Star Wars" fantasy saga. The term "Darth Vader" has now come to represent a a powerful form of evil.
In the interview, Gohmert went on to criticize his own party for putting deep defense cuts on the table as part of the "sequestration" plan during the summer's debt-ceiling fight.
“It is outrageous, and we should never have allowed our national security to be put on the table as a bargaining chip," said Gohmert. "Our leadership apparently thought that by putting our national security on the table and requiring Democrats to put Medicare on the table, the Democrats would never allow the sequestration of Medicare.
“To allow the cuts to defense at a time when we’re at war is outrageous, and we could do what needs to be done without raising the debt ceiling," he concluded. "It’s what we should do.”
