House approves resolution on budget importance

By Pete Kasperowicz - 01/24/12 05:48 PM ET

The House on Tuesday afternoon approved H.Res. 516, a nonbinding resolution expressing the importance of passing a budget resolution.

The 410-1 partisan vote followed several minutes of partisan bickering — Republicans slammed the Senate for failing to approve a budget for the last 1,000 days, while Democrats said GOP obstructionism is the reason why the Senate has been so non-productive.

The House also approved H.R. 2070, the World War II Memorial Prayer Act, by a 386-26 vote. That bill would install a plaque with former President Roosevelt's prayer on D-Day at the National World War II Memorial.

Earlier in the day, the House approved H.R. 290, the War Memorial Protection Act, by voice vote. That will would allow memorials commemorating the service of Armed Forces members to contain religious symbols.
