Rep. Lamar SmithLamar Seeligson SmithHouse GOP chair blasts media for saying 's---hole' while reporting on Trump Issa retiring from Congress House Foreign Affairs chairman to retire MORE (R-Texas) on Tuesday argued that the American media has a liberal bias and has lost the trust of Americans.

"Americans know that liberal media bias is a major problem in our country. They realize that our democracy rests on fair and balanced news. Instead of reporting the facts, though, the national liberal media pushes the agenda of the administration," Smith, who chairs the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, said on the House floor.

Smith cited a May Rasmussen poll finding that 48 percent of respondents say that media bias is a bigger problem in American politics than campaign cash at 44 percent.

"Americans will continue to view the media as a problem until it provides fair and balanced coverage," Smith said.
