Rohrabacher says U.S. aid programs to China 'insane'
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) on Wednesday night blasted the Obama administration's decision to continue borrowing billions of dollars from China, and giving hundreds of millions of dollars back to China through environmental and other development grants.
On the House floor, Rohrabacher said this policy is only helping the U.S. go bankrupt faster, and at the same time is aiding a government that sees the U.S. as an enemy.
"They are happy to loan us the money, and they are happy that we are stupid enough to give it back to them in terms of aid and the types of programs," he said. "We are strengthening a government that considers us an enemy."
"We're borrowing money from China to give it to China, rather than having that money spent in the United States," he said.
"What we are doing is insane," he continued. "America will never survive with such a mindset of these mind-boggling giveaway programs. We're giving this type of support to a country and a government that's totalitarian, that kills Christians and other religious people, who hates the United States. That is not the Chinese people, that's the Chinese government."
Rohrabacher spent 20 minutes listing scores of grants that the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Science Foundation have given to China over the last few years.
