House committees to hit GSA, TSA with more oversight hearings
House committees will meet next week to conduct another round of oversight hearings on the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), two agencies that have been subject to intense congressional scrutiny for months.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will meet on Wednesday to hold a GSA oversight hearing to address "agency mismanagement and wasteful spending."
It will be the committee's second hearing to address GSA spending practices; the first was in April and addressed GSA's $800,000 conference in 2010, which members of both parties skewered as wasteful in a time of fiscal crisis.
Several other House committees will meet next week to conduct their own oversight of various federal departments and agencies in the last full week of work before Congress is expected to break for the August recess. Among others, committees will meet to discuss the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Department of the Interior.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will also meet to assess plans by the Internal Revenue Service to enforce the 2010 healthcare law through the tax code.
