Rep. King 'very likely' to hold hearings on JFK security lapse

By Pete Kasperowicz - 08/14/12 01:13 PM ET

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Pete King (R-N.Y.) is expected to hold hearings on last week's security breach at New York's JFK airport last week.

In an interview with Newsday, King's spokesman said the incident would "very likely" be the subject of hearings.

Last Friday, a man scaled the fence surrounding the airport and walked across two runways before authorities were alerted. His watercraft had broken down in Jamaica Bay, and he was looking for help from airport workers.

"It seems like a lot went wrong," King said. "He walked through a number of secure areas. This is serious security breakdown.

"The bad part is a guy who didn't know what he was doing was able to breach a $100-million security system," he added.

Newsday said King was already set to take a security tour of JFK later this month.
