Rep. Landry asks Boehner to delay CR vote until Egypt, Libya funding addressed

By Pete Kasperowicz - 09/13/12 11:14 AM ET

Freshman Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) on Wednesday called on House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to stop work on the six-month continuing resolution this week until language can be added that removes all funding for Libya and Egypt.

"Yesterday's events represent not only a tragic loss of life, but also direct threats to our national security," he wrote in a letter to Boehner. "I also note, events of lesser severity have been cited as casus belli in the declarations of war submitted by our nation and our allies.

"As such, I find it unconscionable for this body to consider any legislation that provides funding to these nations."

As of Thursday morning, House Republicans still appeared to be prepared to start work on the six-month spending bill, H.J.Res. 117, which would fund all government operations through March.

Landry was one of several members of the House on Wednesday who called for a delay in work on the continuing resolution in light of the attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts in Egypt and Libya, although some acknowledged it would be difficult to strip out the money at this late date.
