"Last year's record temperatures, serious droughts, pervasive wildfires and widespread flooding prove that there is climate change occurring all around us on a regular basis, continually."

Rush said he and other Democrats have written dozens of letters to the House Energy & Commerce Committee since 2011 to ask for a hearing with climate scientists. But he said Republicans have rejected this request each time.

"These very same scientists, these experts… are waiting, they're worried, and they're eager to come before this Congress to share their information and their expertise with the members of this Congres," Rush said. He added that many scientists are warning that the Earth is reaching a "tipping point" on climate change.
