Wednesday: Joint session, overtime pay, debt ceiling

The Working Families Flexibility act, H.R. 1406, would let private sector workers use overtime to get more time away from work. The House passed the rule for this bill on Tuesday, and will pass it today.

The debt ceiling bill is H.R. 807, the Full Faith and Credit Act. This bill would allow the government to borrow money above the debt ceiling to pay interest on the debt, or interest payments related to the Social Security Trust Fund.

The GOP says the bill would ensure the United States doesn't default on the debt; Democrats oppose it.

The House will start with the rule for this bill on Wednesday, and pass it later in the week.

When the Senate resumes work after Park's speech, it will again consider S. 601, the Water Resources Development Act. This bill authorizes various water projects.

At 2 p.m., the Senate is expected to hold up to three votes on amendments. Two are from Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), and the other is from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).

After that, the Senate will vote on a substitute amendment that will be the basis of further work on the bill.
