This year, those calls increased, in particular among Democrats, who are pushing for a budget conference and to pass a nutrition title as part of the farm bill. Some Republicans also said the House should stay in session.

But by unanimous consent and with no objection, the House quickly approved S.Con.Res. 22 by unanimous consent.

That resolution has the House returning to work on Sept. 9. The Senate passed the same resolution on Thursday, and will also return to work on Sept. 9.

Just before passing the resolution, the House approved the Senate-amended H.R. 1344, which would direct the establishment of an expedited screening process at airports for disabled veterans. That bill goes to President Obama for his signature into law.

After these votes, the House was still entertaining "special order" speeches from members, but no more votes were expected.
