Diaz-Balart demanded that the international community intervene on Carrillo’s behalf.
Diaz-Balart said Carrillo is one of Cuba’s leading labor activists, arrested in 2003 for promoting democracy and labor rights in “totalitarian Cuba.”
According to reports, Carrillo was recently told by Cuban state security agents that they are “awaiting orders to kill” him.
Diaz-Balart called for activists to stand up against Fidel Castro’s “vicious” communist regime.
