The Senate is recessed until 8.30 p.m., when senators will gather to proceed to the House chamber across the Capitol building.

Before recessing, the two party leaders, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), introduced several bills, including one by McConnell to repeal healthcare reform legislation and another pertaining to raising the debt limit. The leaders then postponed motion on the legislation until the next legislative day.

Reid said the Senate had had an excellent work day with forward progress in meetings off the floor and outside the chamber.

The Senate will reconvene at 9.30 a.m.
