Harry Reid's Top 10

By Pete Kasperowicz - 01/27/11 12:29 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) this week introduced bills to fill the first 10 slots in the 112th Congress, and in doing so indicated his priorities for the year.

Reid's success in passing them will depend on the Democrats' ability to work with the 47 Republicans, and also on the texts of the bills, none of which have been released.

Reid does have titles:

S. 1 — American Competitiveness Act

S. 2 — Middle Class Success Act

S. 3 — Fiscal Responsibility and Spending Control Act

S. 4 — Make American the World's Leader in Clean Energy Act

S. 5 — Reform America's Schools to Educate the Leaders of the Future Act

S. 6 — Reform America's Broken Immigration System Act

S. 7 — Comprehensive and Fair Tax Reform Act

S. 8 — Tough and Smart National Security Act

S. 9 — Political Reform and Gridlock Elimination Act

S. 10 — Family Economic Success Act

These bills indicate that Reid's priorities are completely unlike those of his Republican counterparts. Various Republicans have introduced bills S. 11 to S. 20, and they would end the so-called marriage penalty, repeal taxes, prohibit the regulation of carbon dioxide and repeal all or part of last year's healthcare law.
