Senate GOP marks one-year anniversary of Dems’ healthcare law

Senate Republicans on Thursday marked the one year-anniversary the passage of President Obama’s landmark healthcare legislation, saying the law is “worse” than they expected.

“The contents of the healthcare bill are even worse then expected,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on the floor. “One year later it looks even worse than it did then. And that is really saying something.” 

Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) added: “In my view it hasn’t been aging very well, and it’s very clear that it has not become more popular with Americans but less popular. Some things age well with time, but not ObamaCare.”

Only Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) ventured to floor on Thursday morning to defend the legislation.

“The healthcare bill is a very important bill,” said Reid. “It’s a milestone in the history or our nation.”

Meanwhile, Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) has offered an amendment to the pending small business bill that would allow local governments to stop spending money on the implementation of the healthcare law until the courts have settled challenges to its constitutionality.

"States may be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a law that is not constitutional," say Ensign. "They shouldn't have to do that."
