Senate reaches deal to vote on 1099 repeal, says Reid

By Josiah Ryan - 03/31/11 08:17 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) said leadership has finally come to an agreement that will allow the Senate to vote on an amendment to the Small Business Administration (SBA) funding bill that would repeal the 1099 tax reporting requirements created by the healthcare reform law.

That vote is now scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Leaders had negotiated with senators for most of the week attempting to come to an agreement that would allow votes on that and other controversial amendments.

Reid said Wednesday that he planned to hold votes on up to 10 amendments to the SBA funding bill Thursday afternoon — including the 1099 repeal, one that would strip the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its power to regulate carbon emissions and another to eliminate some government subsidies to ethanol farmers.

The Senate adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Thursday night without casting a single vote.

The Small Business Reauthorization Act, titled S. 493, would provide funding for the Small Business Innovation Research program and the Small Business Technology Transfer program, which Democrats say are critical to job creation.

The Senate is set to return on Monday at 2 p.m.
