Senate condemns China for South China Sea actions

“A growing number of nations around the South China Sea are now voicing serious concerns about China’s pattern of intimidation," said Webb in a statement released after the resolution cleared the Senate.

In one such altercation in June, a Chinese maritime security vessel allegedly rammed a Vietnamese exploration ship in an area generally recognized to be within Vietnam’s territorial waters.

A similar incident occurred in May involving Japanese territory and vessels.

The resolution, S.Res.217, “deplores” China’s use of force and encourages all parties to seek a peaceful solution.
