McConnell invites Obama to Capitol to see there is no appetite for tax hikes

“So I would like to invite the president to come to the Capitol today to meet with Senate Republicans,” said McConnell. “That way he can hear directly from Senate Republicans why what he is proposing will not pass.”

McConnell was responding to Obama’s news conference Wednesday, in which he scolded Republicans for resisting tax increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling. The president also mocked Congress's work schedule.

“They're in one week, they're out one week," said Obama. "And then they're saying, ‘Obama has got to step in. You need to be here.’ I’ve been here. I’ve been doing Afghanistan and bin Laden and the Greek crisis. You stay here. Let’s get it done.”
