Reid cancels Senate confirmation votes due to foul weather
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) canceled two judicial confirmation votes scheduled for Monday afternoon, saying a storm system had delayed senators in their travel to Washington, D.C.
The votes on the confirmation of Paul Engelmayer to be a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York and Ramona Villagomez Manglona to be a District Judge for the Northern Mariana Islands are now scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
"The sun is shining, but earlier today if some looked out the window there were violent storms here,” said Reid. “They are all over the area. We have got senators stuck in airplanes … one senator traveling from the Midwest stuck in Richmond, Virginia."
The Senate will stay open for senators to make speeches on subjects of their choosing until at least 7 p.m. on Monday.
