Prior to the confirmation vote, a number of senators came to the floor to praise Mueller for his service.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said that even though the FBI has not operated perfectly since Mueller took over, the director has worked hard to improve the agency and deal honestly with congressional oversight.
“I appreciate his candor and I believe the FBI is in good hands with his leadership,” Grassley said.
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) also praised Mueller.
“I truly believe he represents the highest and the best ideals of American patriotism,” Sessions said.
Mueller’s current term expires Aug. 2.
