Obama 'destroying' the institutions that made America great, Inhofe says

By Josiah Ryan - 08/24/11 04:05 PM ET

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) railed against the policies of the Obama administration on Tuesday, saying President Obama is destroying the institutions that made America great.

“We now have a president, and I don’t mean this disrespectfully, who is destroying these very institutions that made America great,” Inhofe said Tuesday to the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce, as reported by the Tulsa World.

Inhofe blamed Obama for the size of the federal deficit and for financial regulations Republicans say are holding back the economy.

“[I]t’s the president’s budget," Inhofe said. "Period. That’s the end of it."

Inhofe also said the Obama administration has “disarmed America” and is partially responsible for the nation’s dependence on imported oil.

Inhofe, who is among the more conservative members of the Senate, is a frequent critic of Obama and his administration.

In 2009 he labeled a speech Obama made in Cairo as "un-American." On a separate occasion he said he never dreamed he would see an “administration try to disavow all the things that have made this country different from all others.”

The junior senator from Oklahoma is also a proponent of the U.S. having a strong military. In a speech delivered Monday, he called for rebuilding the country's armed forces and warned of an imminent threat from Iran.
