"[R]epublicans held up the work of Congress for months in hopes of defeating the president," explained Reid. "[T]heir obstructionist tactics … cost us lots of time. Every moment wasted on procedural hurdles that we have spent on these useless amendments was a moment we weren't creating jobs."

Several pieces of legislation have languished on the Senate floor so far this year, due, in part, to controversial amendments tacked on by Republicans.

Reid also expressed his hope that the minority party would be more cooperative during the upcoming session.
