Senate to vote on renewing Burma trade restrictions

The 2003 legislation's goal is "to strengthen Burma's democratic forces and support and recognize the National League of Democracy as the legitimate representative of the Burmese people, and for other purposes."

The legislation, which is fairly non-controversial having passed the House by a wide margin in July, is set for a vote at 5:30 p.m.

Reid also noted that senators should show up on time for the vote since a 9/11 memorial service is set to begin on the Capitol's East steps at 6 p.m.
