McConnell: Even Democrats dislike Obama's jobs bill

By Josiah Ryan - 09/15/11 10:22 AM ET

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) dismissed President Obama’s jobs bill on Thursday morning, arguing that even Democrats aren't taking the plan seriously.

“After all, this bill’s top selling point, according to the president, was that both parties should like it, yet so far the only things both parties seem able to agree on is that there has got to be a better way,” McConnell said from the Senate floor.

"You had the Democratic majority leader basically treating it as a legislative afterthought," continued McConnell. "One [Democratic] freshman senator called the bill 'frustrating and unfair.' Another Democratic senator called a central part of the bill ‘terrible.’ ”

President Obama presented his $447 billion plan last week, saying it will create jobs. So far the bill has not seen serious legislative action in either chamber.
