GOP freshman introduces rival to Obama’s jobs plan

By Josiah Ryan - 09/26/11 01:49 PM ET

GOP freshman Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) introduced on Monday his conservative alternative to President Obama’s jobs plan that would slash the government’s reach in order to stimulate the economy.

The 33-page plan, titled “Less Government, More Jobs,” would eliminate the capital gains tax, strip power from regulatory agencies, open up energy exploration, attempt to aggrandize free trade and take on tax and tort reform, among other actions.

"I am proud to introduce solutions I believe will result in real job growth, not government growth," said Fleischmann, as reported by The Chattanoogan on Monday.

"The same ‘tax, borrow, spend’ policies from this Administration are not the solutions,” he added, taking an apparent swing at Obama's jobs plan.

Fleischmann's plan "lays out the seven ideas he [Fleischmann] views as vital to getting our country back to work, and the action he is taking, or has already taken, to ensure those ideas are implemented," according to a statement on the congressman's website.

Fleischmann noted, as The Chattanoogan reported, that the Republican-controlled House is already drafting many of the ideas included in his plan into actual legislation.

"The Republican-led House has already been working to put some of these measures in place, but unfortunately the Democratic Senate and White House have said, ‘No,’ " said Fleischmann. "They need to listen to the American people and realize their ideas have failed."
