Reid: Republican senators only care about their own jobs
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) took a swing at Senate Republicans Thursday morning, saying their rejection of President Obama's jobs package on Tuesday proves they only care about preserving their own jobs.
“I am sorry that this week my Republican colleagues have proven once again that the only jobs they care about are their own,” said Reid from the Senate floor. “They voted against a plan creating 2 million jobs because they believed it was good Republican politics.”
The entire Senate Republican Conference as well as two centrist Democrats voted to stop President Obama’s modified $447 billion spending plan on Tuesday in part over concerns that it would have been funded through tax hikes on the wealthy.
Since then, several Democrats who supported the bill have accused Republicans of “filibustering” the plan by blocking it from reaching the Senate floor.
“Republicans have used every trick in the book to stop it from moving forward,” Reid complained Thursday morning.
Senate leaders have indicated they now intend to push forward by bringing up parts of the plan piece by piece.
