McCain lobs another blow at Obama for taxpayer-funded bus tour
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), for the second day in a row on Tuesday, accused President Obama of campaigning on the taxpayer’s dime during his swing through states critical to his 2012 reelection campaign.
“In 2008 when I ran for president I didn’t need a bus to be paid for and built by the government and the taxpayer of the United States,” said McCain. “[T]he president is now on the taxpayer’s money campaigning for three days in North Carolina."
McCain noted that presidents often blur the line between performing their executive duties and campaigning, but said that Obama had taken it to an unprecedented level in his trip to tout his $447 billion "jobs" package."
“I do not believe any of us have seen the sort of activity the president is engaged in and all of it charged to the taxpayers of the United States of America,” said McCain. “[A]t least the campaign should be paying for this sort of campaigning”
On Monday, McCain also remarked that Obama's jet-black Secret Service-provided bus, dubbed “the behemoth,” was the ugliest he had ever seen.
“I must say again that I have never seen an uglier bus,” said McCain.
