Reid warns Republicans that filibusters could endanger holiday recess

"Senate Republicans have blocked four proposals to protect middle-class pocketbooks," said Reid, speaking of the fragments of President Obama’s legislation that Republicans have refused to advance.

"Every hour they delay and every day they filibuster is one more the Senate will stay in Washington to get its work done," he said.

At the end of last week Reid listed the work the Senate must accomplishment before departing Washington for the year. The list included additional confirmation of Obama nominees, a continuing resolution or a spending omnibus, votes on balanced-budget amendments, extension of the payroll tax, extension of unemployment insurance and Medicare reimbursement, tax extenders and the Medicare "doc fix." All of these matters are set to expire at the end of the year.

The Senate is scheduled to recess for the holiday at the end of this week, but considering the quantity of unfinished business, that seems less and less likely.
