Tuesday: THUD appropriations, VA fix and Federal Reserve nominations

The House will consider a bill to allow veterans to seek care from doctors outside the Department of Veterans Affairs if they live more than 40 miles from the nearest facility or wait times are too long. It will also take up a resolution under suspension of the rules to condemn the May 23 shooting in Isla Vista, Calif.

Debate may go late into the evening as the House completes consideration of amendments to the 2015 Transportation-Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill.

The Senate starts at 10 a.m. and will immediately vote to confirm M. Hannah Lauck to be a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.

At noon, the Senate will then vote to confirm Leo Sorokin to be a U.S. district judge for the District of Massachusetts and Richard Boulware to be a U.S. district judge for the District of Nevada.

After those three judicial nominees are confirmed, the Senate will recess until 2:15 p.m. so senators can attend weekly caucus luncheons.

At 2:30 p.m. the Senate will vote to end debate on three nominee to serve on the Federal Reserve Board, but their confirmation votes have been scheduled for Thursday so that senators can attend a funeral, a bill signing and a graduation ceremony.

A list of the Federal Reserve nominees and their titles follow:

- Lael Brainard to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

- Jerome Powell to be member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

- Stanley Fischer to be Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
