Senate could move to surface transportation bill on Tuesday

By Josiah Ryan - 02/06/12 07:30 PM ET

Senate Democratic leadership hopes to bring the surface transportation bill to the floor on Tuesday, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said before adjourning the Senate on Monday.

The bill, officially called the Federal Public Transportation Act of 2012 would reauthorizes federal public transportation programs at current funding levels for two fiscal years and was passed unanimously out of the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday.

Durbin did not, however, schedule any votes or make a concrete legislative plans for the bill. Most likely the bill will have to endure at least one procedural vote and clear a 60-vote threshold before it can reach the floor for actual debate.

The Senate will convene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
