Cloture vote set in Senate for highway bill

By Josiah Ryan - 02/07/12 08:27 PM ET

Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) set a procedural vote for the Senate's version of the surface transportation bill for 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The legislation, S. 1813, was cleared by the Finance Committee on Tuesday and would reauthorize federal-aid for highway and highway safety construction. The Senate version of the bill would also raise revenue for the highway trust fund by making a small tax hike on money saved by Americans for retirement.

Before adjourning the Senate Thursday evening the chamber also cleared a bill by unanimous consent congratulating the New York Giants for their Super Bowl victory.

The Senate is scheduled of recess on Wednesday to accommodate a Democratic Senatorial retreat and will return at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
