Conclusion of work on highway bill postponed to accommodate party for Sen. Collins

By Josiah Ryan - 03/13/12 05:46 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pushed back the tail end of the vote-O-rama on amendments proposed to the pending highway bill until Wednesday in order to accommodate an event commemorating the engagement of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), who is managing the highway bill, hailed progress made on Tuesday and said she feels confident that after more than a month, the Senate will finally pass the highway legislation on Wednesday.

"We have made incredible progress on this bill," she said. "I look forward to tomorrow when we will complete work on this bill. I think we are showing a bipartisan spirit and bipartisan cooperation. It feels good that we are going to pass our bill."

This article was updated to reflect Sen. Collins' recent engagement.
