Senate confirms Obama nominee for Fourth Circuit Court

By Daniel Strauss - 04/16/12 06:00 PM ET

Stephanie Dawn Thacker was confirmed as the United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit on Monday.

Thacker was confirmed in a vote of 91-3. Sens. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and David Vitter (R-La.) voted against Thacker's confirmation. Sens. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Orin Hatch (R-Utah), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) did not vote.

In mid-March Senate leaders came to an agreement on confirming a number of President Obama's judicial nominees, thereby avoiding a standoff in the chamber. Thacker is one of the 14 nominees Senate Democrat and Republican leaders agreed to confirm by May 7th.

In exchange for passing the nominees, the Senate took up the JOBS Act, a priority for Republicans, which passed the Republican-controlled House a week earlier.
