Senate confirms Missouri district judge nominee

By Daniel Strauss - 04/23/12 06:13 PM ET

The Senate confirmed the nomination of Brian Wimes as U.S. District Judge for the eastern and western districts of Missouri on Monday.

Wimes was confirmed in a vote of 91-1. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) was the nay vote.

The confirmation is part of a deal reached by Senate Democrats and Republicans to confirm 14 of President Obama's 17 judicial nominees by May 7th. A week earlier the Senate confirmed the nomination of Stephanie Dawn Thacker as United States Circuit judge for the Fourth Circuit.

In return for agreeing to bring the 14 nominees up for a vote, Senate Republicans got the chamber to consider the JOBS Act, which the Republican-controlled House passed in early April and President Obama signed into law soon after.
