Senate Democrats hope to pass Export-Import Bank legislation Thursday

Senate Democrats hope to pass H.R. 2072, the Securing American Jobs Through Exports Act, by unanimous consent, according to a Senate Democratic aide.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) previously indicated a strong interest in swiftly passing the legislation and reconvened the Senate on Thursday with one hour of debate on the legislation.

In an a rare moment of strong bipartisanship, House Democrats joined Republicans in passing the bill Wednesday evening. No Democrat opposed the legislation, while 93 Republicans did.

Business groups consider the Export-Import Bank vitally important because of loan guarantees and loans it offers in order to make it easier for companies to buy U.S. products and services overseas.
