The vote on the amendment to the farm bill, by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), was 88 to 11.
The Senate also approved by voice vote an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) aimed at improving local wood energy programs and one by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) changing a provision in the farm bill on "high-priority and extension initiatives."
An amendment by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) that would have moved the farm bill back to the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee was defeated 40-59.
